Spent about 90 minutes at Crooked Run Nature Preserve on the Ohio River (SW
Clermont County) this morning. Once I got out of earshot of the Cub Scouts who
were camping in the park next to the preserve, it was a beautiful morning.
Although I accidentally flushed 2 sets of ducks without IDing them, I had some
good birding - a "3 woodpecker day." A Great Blue Heron was first heard, then
seen, over the estuary. White-throated Sparrows were everywhere, responding
to pishing and singing everything from a full chorus of "Poor Sam Peadbody" to
a "chip" note that had a cardinal flavor. A single Eastern Bluebird was
perched high above the meadow, and Tufted Titmice and Eastern Towhees were heard,
not seen.
