I live in Hilliard which is a suburb on the west side of Columbus. Our neighborhood is about 15 years old with numerous ornamental crab apple trees. Since these trees matured about 10 years ago and hold fruit all winter, we have had hundreds of Robins overwintering here. Previously overwintering Robins were very rare.

I have a bird bath right outside of a picture window and have noticed quite a variation in the Robins drinking from it during the last month or so. On 11-24-06 there were about 5 Robins with white outer tail feathers that were so large, white and distinct they looked Mockingbird like. Some of the Robins do not have any white on their tails. Some have a blackish nape and head, some have a partially blackish head, and some have all gray heads. Some are dull orange and light gray and some are bright orange and dark gray.

I believe I am seeing several different species of migrating Robin (as well as various stages of maturity). Does anyone know how many species of Robin can I expect to see passing through or living in central Ohio?
