Hi Everyone,

This morning, I saw a Cooperıs Hawk dive between two apartment buildings on
Kenilworth (across the street from the entrance to Lake View Cemetery, in
Cleveland Heights). An instant later, a small flock of pigeons (under two
dozen) emerged. The pigeons were not at all amused‹in fact, they were in a
panic, but quickly formed into an organized flock and started to circle
around above the buildings. The Cooperıs Hawk made another pass at them,
then gave up and settled into a tree, looked around for awhile, then moved
on to perch in a more distant tree, where it was still sitting when I left.

Pigeons seem kind of big for Cooperıs Hawk prey. Is this a dim-witted bird,
or is there another possibility: there might be one chance, if in its
initial dive the hawk can catch a pigeon unaware, maybe it could take it.

Best wishes,

Steve Cagan
