bill whan's posting of early this morning was very prescient as i found a lone cave swallow flying over the dunes area at headlands beach state park as soon as i entered the area about 7:45 am this morning (11/30/2006). the lone bird made three (3) passes around the little pond in the dunes area and then i lost it. no one else was there to verify the sighting. a search in the fairport harbor area, where cave swallows were observed in november 2005, yielded no more swallows. other interesting birds noted today in the headlands area were black-throated blue warbler at veterans' park, a holdover from yesterday, 25 surf scoters and a harlequin duck on the lake off the lakefront trail at mentor lagoons, and an eared grebe on the lake at the west end of mentor lagoons. i will post any more sightings of cave swallows if we find any more. the weekend forecast for much colder, windier, and snowier conditions along lake erie does not seem conducive to finding cave swallows, but !
 one never can tell.
