I like birds. Its fun when they pop up in places you don't expect to
see them. Today after class at CSCC (I"m taking a couple classes there
to pass the time, augmenting my other classes at MVNU) Columbus State,
and I'm walking to my car parked in the east parking lot when I see a
lil' BROWN CREEPER fly over to the tree along the tree lined drive in
front of the parkinglot. I watched it as it picked along up the bark.
The little WHITE-THroated SPARROWS are still hoppin and scratchin down
under the yew bushes there. These birds are ones I'd not really expect
to see right in Columbus like that, but I guess the nice tree plantings
there have paid off for them.
Back home I saw the usual backyard birds and Woodpeckers (Downy,
Red-bellied) at my feeders, plus Junco's and White-Crowned Sparrows.
During my Mtn. Bike ride out back I saw a Red-tailed Hawk, a Wood Duck,
and a GBH. I also found a first year Wood-frog that I thought deseved
remarking upon, they look awesome this time of year with all the leaf
litter and they take on a nice bright reddish coppery color to match
the ground cover fall leaves. This little gem was bright red around the
lateral lines and head, always a fun frog to find. I know its not a
bird sighting but its just a reminder to look down occaisonally when
your out there, There are so many wonderful things to see.
   Good birding and Go RedHawks!
