Since so many Ohio birders have know Mona and have voted for her in this
contest, I wanted to share the good news with Ohio Birds. Last night, just
before 11:00 PM, Animal Planet ran a short segment announcing Mona Rutger as the
Animal Planet's Hero of the Year. It included some nice footage of the
center.

A story appears on the front page of our local Sandusky Register:

This excellent article was in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer

The Toledo Blade also has a nice account

This is the first time Animal Planet has had this competition. They
received 4000 entries. Their judges selected the top ten, including Mona, for the
public voting poll which counted as 25% of the contestants' final scores.

Many thanks to all of you who supported her. If you would like to see for
yourself just how deserving she is of this award, contact her to book a tour
of Back to the Wild at _http://backtothewild.org/_ (http://backtothewild.org/)
