I'm pretty new to observing birds, but I though I had the dabbling/diving
distinction figured out, until today. Walking by a small lake in Hudson
this afternoon, passed by a group of around 20 Mallards of which about half
were consistently diving, in the same place, going under with quite a splash
and staying there for 3-4 seconds. I guess there must have been something
very tasty down there. Is this unusual behavior?
Stephen
