Yesterday (12/17) we did the Lake Erie Islands Christmas bird count. I have gotten results from Pelee Island and partial results from Kelley's Island, but not from any of the other islands yet. I think we had one of our better counts at Kelley's Island. Our best birds were surf and white-winged scoter, turkey vulture (1), California and Iceland gull, purple sandpiper (4), saw-whet owl (2), long-eared owl, hermit thrush (at least 107), 100+ golden-crowned kinglets. At Pelee Island best birds were golden eagle, rose-breasted grosbeak (2), and brant. Our total right now is in the low 70's. Once I get all of the results I'll post them.

The weather was cloudy in the morning and it got pretty foggy in the afternoon. We didn't get off the island until the last ferry run. The counters at Pelee were stuck overnight. Despite all this, it was a lot of fun.
