At 1:30PM today I found one Merlin in the spot
described yesterday by Dan Sanders about 150 yards
north of the pit pertched at the top of one of the
large oak trees which line the road leading north from
the pit.

As I watched, it suddenly took off to the north and
circled back towards me. Another bird began to chase
it and as both birds flew directly toward me, I was
surprised to see that the second bird was another
Merlin. They circled over my position and then flew
to the south towards the bridge out of sight. A few
minutes later I met Ben Warner who also saw them and
was able to videotape one of the birds.

I then went to look for the Grandview Western Tanager
and after looking at the intersection of Merrick and
Fairview without success I went to the second known
location and was able to find the bird in the front
lawn of 1650 Ridgeway Ave. It was very easy to see
and did not seem disturbed by my close presence.

Two life birds in one afternoon! Not a bad day at
all.
