My brother in the Fairlawn area of Akron reported to me  a crow-sized bird
that landed briefly on the roof of one of his bird feeders, where hawks and
owls often like to perch. (He lives in a heavily wooded area and has many
woodpeckers, owls, etc.) This bird had a brown head, white breast, black
wings/back. Coloration smooth and consistent, not marbled. It was the wrong
shape for an owl, so he thought it most likely was of the hawk/falcon group.
Looked a bit like a Swainson's, but that would probably be too big, also
aren't they mostly a western bird? Any ideas?
