Hi all,

Just got a call from my father, who along with my mother and brother Mike, just returned from a successful mission to find the Snowy Owl in Pickaway County, NW of Circleville. They found the bird around 11:00 this morning, and were able to watch it for a while. It was perched on the ground out in a corn stubble field, and when they do this they aren't nearly so conspicuous as when perched atop a roadside telephone pole, so if you go, be sure to carefully look over the fields. The owl was on the south side of Commercial Point Road, ¼ mile east of State Route 104. This is only about 2 ½ miles northwest of Circleville, and on the Delorme, the site is on page 68, near coordinates C-2.

This is a rare chance to study one of these magnificent Arctic owls in central Ohio. There was one near Wilmington in Clinton County back in 2000, I believe, and it became quite the celebrity. I imagine this one will too, if it hangs around.

Good luck!
