Greetings everyone,

To chime in on the Kestrel discussion.... I traveled to the Cleveland area
from Columbus over the weekend. On my way back home on Sunday, I counted 15
American Kestrels! They were mostly located on Rt. 301 (which goes
north/south through Lorain and Medina Counties) in very kestrel-friendly
habitat - old farms. Saw a few along Rt. 71, and then 3 more once I got
into the southeast side of Columbus and Pickerington Ponds Metro Park where
I live.

So I'd have to say that in my one-day experience Kestrels are doing well,
especially in the areas where one might expect them to be! Red-tailed Hawks
were also rather numerous, particularly in trees along Rt. 71. I probably
saw at least 15 of this species, as well.

And to top off my trip - a huge wild turkey in the berm of Rt. 71, near Mt.
Gilead! She was just standing there watching the cars go by, probably
figuring out how to cross the road. (Oh wait, that's supposed to be a
chicken, right?!?!)
