Unfortunately, the listserve wouldn't take my work Email address, so an earlier posting of this info didn't get through and the sighting is a bit cold now. I had a female/young male Western Tanager in Grandview Heights (a close suburb of Columbus) around 2PM this afternoon. It was feeding in fruiting bushes and vines in the vicinity of the intersection of Merrick and Fairview avenues, about 1 block south of the Grandview library. It was very hungry and easily approachable; I was able to get within 16 feet of it over the course of 5 minutes. The neighborhood here is lightly trafficked and the yards have many fruiting trees so it might stay for a while.
