I figured that most birds would stay near water & feeders on this supremely cold morning, so I visited these 2 MetroParks in NE Columbus. The Blendon feeders are well-known, but Sharon Woods also has feeders scattered around its trails. Both parks also have ponds that stay ice-free for much of the winter. Shrock Lake in Sharon Woods had little other than Mallards & Geese, while Thoreau Pond at Blendon had its usual horde of Black Ducks & Mallards, plus 4 Gadwall. Other highlights included 2 Rusty Blackbirds (along the shore of Shrock Lake), 2-4 E.Bluebirds (SharonWoods), Pileated Woodpecker (Blendon), Brown Creepers (both parks), 2 Towhees (SharonWoods), and a few Tree Sparrows (both parks). The best feeders at Blendon were at the Nature Center, while the best at Sharon were along the main trail SW of Shrock Lake, in the oak woods that have been productive for most of the Fall.
