The Carey, Ohio Christmas bird count was conducted on Monday, Jan. 1'st this year. We had 14 observers in 5 separate parties with 1 doing a feeder watch. Temps. started in the mid 40's and continued to drop throughout the day with persistent rain showers. Highlights this year included 6 Virginia Rails at Springville marsh north of Carey, 1 Gray Catbird well documented behind the Wyandot Co. landfill, and a Chipping Sparrow at the Rick Counts feeder which has appeared 4 of the past 8 years in the winter months.
