Hello everyone, Sam Corbo posted the following to www.rarebird.org
today and wanted someone to pass it along, as for myself, I may get a
chance to wild goose chase these possible cacklers tomorrow:

"Hey folks,

I'm not a member of the Ohio listserv, as I've spent most of the last
two and a half years in Wisconsin and Michigan, so if you feel this
should be sent that way, feel free to forward it to the listserv.

While driving home from Columbus this morning, I had two possible
Cackling Geese pass over my car while heading down I-71 at the
intersection with I-270 at about 8:30. The birds were with two Canada
Geese. I'm calling these birds based on size in relation to the
Canadas. I've had several chances to study Cackling Geese at close
range in Milwaukee over the last couple of years, in direct comparison
with many, many Canada Geese of different subspecies (sizes). IMO, I
feel like these two were likely Cackling Geese; they didn't look like
they were even half the size of the two Canada Geese. However, I
wouldn't feel comfortable calling it unless I had a chance to study the
birds more closely. However, if anyone is in the area, I think it
would be worth checking, and could probably be relocated. If anyone is
in the mood for a wild goose chase, the birds looked like they were
going down to land when I lost track of them. The fields just
southwest of the I-270/I-71 intersection are your best bet, somewhere
inside of the circle formed by Mariane Drive, Gantz Road, and
Stringtown Road. The rest of the surrounding area is residential, so I
would be suprised if they are anywhere else but these fields.

Also, I had a flock of 8 Snow Buntings just north of Jeffersonville,
and two Rough-legged Hawks between Columbus and Cincinnati.

Good birding!"
Sam Corbo
