I had two interesting sightings yesterday. A mockingbird flew across my
path
on W 130 on the bridge between Lorain and Trisket Roads. I have never
seen one around
in January. I have a nesting pair near my office on Berea Rd. but they
disappear every fall.

A merlin was shredding a bird on top a telephone pole in the parking lot
of Pat Catan's Craft Store on Berea rd. I have only seen Merlins a
couple times before and this one was my best look in spite of the
overcast sky backlighting
the bird.
While it was eating some mourning doves landed near it on the wires as
if to see
what it was doing. One would think they would have avoided
the merlin instead.
