Hi folks -

Birded East 72nd on the Cleveland lakefront this morning. Dave LeGallee,
Hugh Rose and Judy Kolo-Rose, Phil Chaon, and a few others braved the cold
to pick out some pretty neat birds from a much lesser number of birds than
were present yesterday in the hotwaters. Canvasback, Redhead, scaup,
Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, and a Gadwall were all in close. Gulls were
pretty good, with 8 species. Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Larid report:

Iceland Gull: One individal; a very awesome looking 3rd winter bird in the
hotwaters area stuck around for at least 10-15 minutes. Can't wait to see
Hugh's photos.

Thayer's Gull: 2 total; A very nice adult bird allowed good study for Phil
and I, first found in flight; a 2nd year bird was not as easily found but
spent time in the hotwaters for a decent study.

Glaucous Gull: 1 individual reported by an observer who said "there was one
reported earlier this morning"

Lesser Black-backed Gull: 9 total individuals; 1 adult, 1 3rd year, 2 2nd
year, and 2 1st year birds all in close in the hotwaters! At one point, the
two 2nd year birds were swimming side-by-side for good study. A quick stop
at East 55th turned up 2 adults and 1 2nd year bird huddled down in the
large gull flock on the ice pack.

Great Black-backed Gull: larger number of birds far out on the ice pack; at
least 15 adults in close.

Herring Gull: very abundant

Ring-billed Gull: abundant

Bonaparte's Gull: 3 or 4

Good birding,
Jen
