After swinging past a totally frozen Alum lake before work, i had just
enough time to check out Hoover. I came in from the north and as expected
it was frozen also. However just north of the dam there were a few spots
of open water, mainly concentrated with Canada Geese, Mallards and Ring-
Billed Gulls. As a final option i headed to the south, lower side of the
dam. The water here was luckily not frozen and teaming with water fowl.
Below is the estimated list of birds seen at the base of the dam:
Mallards - Lots
Canada geese - Lots
GBH - 3
A. Black Duck - At least 10 or so
A. Wigeon - 8
Lesser Scaup - 4
H. Mergansers - 10
Bufflehead - 3
A. Goldeneye - 2
N. Shoveler - 1
Also, an Adult Bald Eagle was seen north of the dam
