East 72nd Street was pretty good today. I saw three different glaucous gulls
(more were seen earlier), at least three Iceland gulls, one Thayer's gull
and two lesser black-backed gulls were seen along with numerous great
black-backed, herring, and ring-billed. Thousands of gulls were
occasionally visible north of the outer breakwall so even more gulls are
around the area. A male white-winged scoter was pretty accommodating
amongst the many ducks present. Other waterfowl seen were mute swan, Canada
goose, mallard, redhead, canvasback, greater and lesser scaup, common and
red-breasted merganser, and American coot. Also an immature and adult bald
eagle were seen. They seemed to enjoy getting the thousands of gulls up.
