Steve and all, the odd Hooded Merganser is a male bird that appears to be a
hybrid between Hooded Merganser and Common Goldeneye. The head is shaped like
C. Goldeneye but does not have the white hood or white facial patch of either
parent species, it is green irridescent. The bill as Steve mentioned is all
Hooded Merganser. There are some white feathers causing some streaking on the
back of the bird which is consistent with C. Goldeneye.

Also, I had a Yellow-rumped Warbler around the pond on Sunday.

Good Birding,

Brian Zwiebel
