Paul Gardner and I were on the campus today and, remembering Paula
Lozano's report from last weekend that she found no black-crowned
night-herons in the Flats, we checked out the much more modest winter
roost along the Olentangy River, with the same result. There were some
spots of open water, the occasional ring-billed gull, and a hunting
great blue heron, however. Both these roosts persisted longer than this
last year, Paula's until 13 April (and 14 April the year before).
Chances are the birds have relocated, but will they return to these
spots as more water opens up?
