Hi all,

On behalf of the OOS and Audubon Miami Valley, I want to thank the 230 or so
people who came out for the Owls of North America symposium this weekend at
Hueston Woods. As John Perchalski noted, the weather was not tropical, but
that's February in Ohio. Fortunately, the main show was our speakers, who
all did a great job and we appreciate each and every one of them coming out
to be a part of this.

A bunch of us went to Brookville Lake in adjacent Indiana today as part of
the field trips, and saw some great birds, including Sandhill Crane,
Northern Shrike, Greater White-fronted Goose, and many species of waterfowl.
Signs of spring were all around, with numerous Killdeer flying north, as
well as Common Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds. The drake Common
Goldeneyes were putting on quite a show, too, being in full display mode as
they courted the hens. As you've probably noticed, the Northern Cardinals
and Song Sparrows are singing like spring is already here.

I'll put up some photos of the symposium on my blog at
http://www.ohiobirds.org/blog/blog.php over the next day or so.
