Pre-dawn greeted me today with my first peenting Woodcocks of the season (DeLorme 70 D2). I had two birds that must have arrived overnight and didnt waste anytime staking territory. Even with all the rain and warmer temps, I still have about 50% of the land covered with snow/ice. The ground is still as hard as a rock under about .5 inch of thawed out, looser earth. Last year, my first Woodcock was on 2.28 on the same chunk of land.
