The water at the Melvin Gravel Pit is nearly frozen over but a small narrow stream is still open and this PmM it held a number of very cold waterfowl. It had:

4 Pintail
18 Black Ducks
4 Ring-necked Ducks
12 Mallards
10 Coots
2 Pied-billed Grebes
3 Canada Geese
1 lone Robin in the tree next to the water

Melvin is 7 miles East of Wilmington on Rt. 22. The folks in the office are friendly to birders but want to know who is there and ask that you scope from the parking space and avoid the grassy area. This allows plenty of good observing.

Still Snowy Cheers, Larry Gara, Wilmington
