I spent a few hours in light rain this afternoon searching for the
previously-reported Eurasian Wigeon at Funk Bottoms Wildlife Area. I
couldn't find it from the viewing platform, though there were many American
Wigeon to search through in the distance. After a birding group containing
Jim McCormac came and left, I tried another angle. I found a pull-off
(actually a couple) on route 95, from which it took only about 10 minutes to
find the drake EURASIAN WIGEON. I got a very poor but identifiable pic of
the bird next to an American Wigeon.
I went looking for the group of birders (I had heard them say something
about Wilderness Road), but couldn't find them. In the process, I did find
2 SNOW GEESE along Wilderness Road though.
There are LOTS of waterfowl in and around the Funk Bottoms area, and I could
see it being very shorebirdy in the next month or so.
Good birding,
John
