On March 10, 2007, John and Constance Jones, and Joe and Ella McMahon
made a circuit of Rocky Fork Lake in Highland Co., Ohio. Most of the
diving ducks were there in good numbers as well as 5 Horned Grebes. The
high point was an *Eared Grebe*. It was seen in two different locations
across the lake from each other. No way to know if there were two or
just one that moved. Both times it was studied by all of the party with
binoculars and a scope. Comparison with three bird guides showed it
definitely to be this species. The neck was quite dark when compared to
the Horned Grebes nearby, with the white patch on the back of the head
was evident.
