Hi Everyone,
Beth and I visited Gordon Park this morning (Cleveland waterfront)‹we got
there about 10:30 in brilliant sunshine and cold, wit winds picking up from
the west. I mention the wind because when we arrived, the area off the
Gordon park parking lot was almost entirely open, with just a few bits of
ice floating here and there (the marina and basins were frozen, of course).
By the time we left, wind-blown ice had filled in almost the entire area,
driving away the large numbers of ducks that had been present.
We had:
Ring-billed Gull‹ xxxx
Herring Gull‹xx
Lesser Scaup‹ xxx
Greater Scaup‹ 4
Common Goldeneye‹ xx
Bufflehead‹ 6
Mallard‹ xx
American Black Duck‹ 1
Redhead‹ xx
Canvasback‹ xxx
Canada Goose‹ xx
The 55th Street basin and the area around Cleveland Public Power were frozen
over
Other birders reported having seen a Peregrine Falcon, a Common Merganser
and a couple of Hooded Mergansers.
I was interested to see not a singly Red-breasted Merganser...
Best wishes,
Steve Cagan
Cleveland Hts
