Hi all,

Carl Slater just called to report a Northern Shrike at Egypt Valley
Wildlife Area in Belmont County, which is in extreme eastern Ohio. This
is not a common bird in those parts, so if you are in the area you may
want to go have a look. It was seen along County Road 100 about one mile
north of U.S. Route 40, and patrolling this section of the road would be
your best bet. For a map, go to the Division of Wildlife's website at:
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/wildlife/Hunting/wildlifeareas/southeast/sout
heastwa.htm or the OOS website at:
http://www.ohiobirds.org/birdingsites/showsite.php?Site_ID=53

Carl and crew got pretty good looks and are pretty confident of the ID,
but were never that close. It bears noting that Loggerhead Shrikes, like
the one Bill Whan reported earlier from Adams County, have become
extremely rare and all shrikes should be carefully scrutinized.

This bird was found during an outing of the Brooks Bird Club of West
Virginia, which celebrates their 75th anniversary this year. Make note
of their anniversary celebration which is from October 26-28 in
Wheeling, WV. An interesting agenda includes programs by Chandler
Robbins, and Kenn Kaufman. Watch for details on the club's website at:
