CACKLING GOOSE: Found by Rick Asamoto on the 18th at
St Marys Fish Hatchery (Auglaize County). Photos are
at the OOS Forum.

EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE: Michigan birder Dick Wolinski
saw two birds at West Curtis Street at Santa Claus
Trail (Lane?) in Stryker, Williams county on or about
March 12. The birds could not be relocated on the
21st. Photographs, particularly of the diagnostic
undertail coverts, are desired. Currently the only
accepted Ohio record is of hunter-killed birds.

LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE: A banded individual, presumably of
the Ontario, Canada study population, was seen on the
19th in Adams Co. Locational information is being
tightly held for now.

SPOTTED TOWHEE: Last reported on Sunday March 18, at
the feeder of Ms. Jan Dixon, 1948 Whitby Court,
Holland, Lucas County.

HARRIS' S SPARROW: Seen at least as late as the 17th
at the property of Mr. Eli D. Miller, 3395 Township
Rd. 406, Walnut Creek, Holmes County. The bird was
seen by Pam Jordan at the eastern edge of the property
near the compost area and under the feeder.

Seasonal Highlights:

PEREGRINE FALCONS are nesting in Cleveland. Migration
continues apace: COMMON LOON, HORNED GREBE, EARED
GREBE, RUSTY BLACKBIRD, AMERICAN PIPIT, GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLET, and FOX SPARROW are widely reported.

GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE: Lee Gruber reported four
from the north beach of East Fork Reservoir on the
18th.

EURASIAN WIGEON: This very rare migrant was spotted by
Levi Yoder in front of the observation tower at Funk
Bottoms WA on the 21st.

SURF SCOTER: Widely distributed inland this week. On
March 18, Jay Lehman found them at Miami Whitewater
and at Spring Valley. John Kuenzli had one at Big
Island WA on the 19th. Scott Albaugh saw them at the
Ohio River Pike Island Lock and Dam near Yorkville,
OH, and Rick Asamoto from Cowan Lake, both on the
20th. On the 21st Rob Thorne found ten at Alum Lake,
Delaware County.

WHITE-WINGED SCOTER: Seen at the Ohio River Pike
Island Lock and Dam near Yorkville, OH on March 20 by
Scott Albaugh.

LONG-TAILED DUCK: Ethan Kistler found a female at
Mosquito Lake, Trumbull Co. on the 18th. Su Synder
reported a drake from Killbruck Marsh WA the same day
that was still being seen at least through the 21st.
Levi Yoder found a female at Wright Marsh on the 21st.

AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN: On March 21, Casey Tucker had
three at the north end of C.J. Brown Reservoir, Clark
County.

AMERICAN BITTERN: The Toledo Naturalist Association
flushed one from some marsh vegetation just northeast
of the north end of Stange Road, west of Ottawa NWR on
the 19th.

GREAT EGRET: One was reported on the 17th from the
Ottawa NWR auto tour. Vic Fazio asks that sightings of
great egrets be submitted to eBird (www.ebird.org) for
a study of their spring migration patterns.

OSPREY: Pairs have returned to nests at Rayland
Marina, Rayland, Belmont County and to Pickerington
Ponds Metropark, Franklin/Fairfield counties. For
information on contributing to our knowledge of Ohio's
Breeding Birds, see The Ohio Breeding Birds Atlas
