In addition to the excellent movement of waterbirds this morning (3/25),
there were abundant songbirds migrating as well as a brief, but heavy hawk
flight. In all I ended up with 72 species and never left my yard.
Observations were made from the same area I do my waterbird survey at
Lakeshore Reservation..

Songbirds moved throughout the morning. I missed a lot of early morning
blackbird and robin flocks as they were moving a little more inland and I
was watching the lake. There was nothing of note with the songbirds. Hawks
and vultures started around 11:30 and ended a little after 1:00 when the
wind picked up out of the north and the temperatures dropped from 54-43
degrees. Best hawks were an adult goshawk and a rough-legged hawk. here
are the songbird and hawk totals:

Turkey vulture 622
Sharp-shinned hawk 4
NORTHERN GOSHAWK 1 adult
Cooper's hawk 6
Red-shouldered hawk 19
Red-tailed hawk 36
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK 1
American kestrel 33

Mourning dove 87
American crow 533
Northern flicker 1
Tree swallow 41
Eastern phoebe 1
Eastern bluebird 23
American robin 1,070
Golden-crowned kinglet 8
Chipping sparrow 1
Fox sparrow 14
Blackbirds 9,760 (Grackles most common followed by red-winged blackbirds,
cowbirds, and rusty blackbirds)
Eastern meadowlark 27
