Reports of "early" birds (Henslow's Sparrow at the Wilds, Prothonotary
Warbler in Franklin County) reminded me that I haven't reported my "early" bluebird
nest. My pair of Eastern Bluebirds have been in residence all winter, helped
by mild temperatures and supplemental feeding. They were inspecting the
nesting box in January, began building in earnest on March 14 and had completed
their nest by the 21st. Copulation was observed on March 26 and the first egg of
the season was laid on March 27. This is 9 days earlier than my earliest
recorded date (April 5 of last year.) As of today, March 30, there are 4 eggs.
