Well after I got back from a week of birding in Colorado all day
every day, I was thinking I wasn't going to look at birds for a day,
you know, as a break. But as I looked out my window I noticed how
bright the Goldfinches were and the Cardinals; I missed Cardinals!
Didn't see any out there (yeah I know there are a limited few around
out there). Also out in the back yard was a female Wild Turkey, how
cool is that? So anyways, I then was out on a walk through the woods
surveying a property and I ran into some more good birds. I heard the
chip notes of a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and pished it down to see a male
in breeding colors, also in this nearby Morrow Co. Woods were
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, and a PILEATED WOODPECKER, as well as the
usual suspects, plus saw some more turkey tracks in the leftover snow.
I got home and heard the trill of a CHIPPING SPARROW, and I
hadn't even seen one yet this year so of course I had to track it down
and by imitating their chips and trills I got them to check me out,
looks like maybe the same pair that nested in our trees last year (and
had a not-so lovely Cowbird as their chick). I wished them the best of
luck this time. After listening to the singing of a BROWN THRASHER out
back, I came inside again and happily watched a FIELD SPARROW at my
feeder. While Colorado was an awesome trip and I saw a ton of lifebirds
that were amazing, I have to say that I am glad to be back home with my
"old friends".
    Good Birding all day everyday!
