If the cold temperatures and slowed migration has you down, perhaps a full
day of birding talks is just what you need.

Lake Erie Wing Watch is being held tomorrow, April 14, at the Oak Harbor
High School in Oak Harbor (Ottawa County). In the past, this event featured an
extensive silent auction and a guest speaker on Friday evening, then a
Saturday full of birding workshops. This year, all these events will be combined
to create a great one-day event.

Concurrent sessions on a host of topics fill the day, with something for
everyone. Topics include Beginning Birding Part 1 and 2, Birding by Ear,
Backyards and Hummingbirds, Ohio Birding Hotspots, Wildlife Friendly Wind Power,
Digital Photography, and ID workshops on Warblers, Waterfowl, Shorebirds, and
Bats.

In addition vendors and a variety of conservation organizations, including
Back to the Wild, will have displays. There is also an excellent silent
auction with many birding related items. Lunch is available.

The evening will conclude with a "Taste of Ottawa County" reception
preceding the keynote speaker, Paul J. Baicich. His talk "Birders, Conservation, and
Refuges...Making Better Connections" should be of great interest to us all.
He will also be presenting "Why Shade Grown Coffee?" during the workshop
sessions.

Sunday, there will be morning bird walks at Magee Marsh, Sandy Ridge
Reservation, and Sheldon Marsh and an afternoon Eagle Watch in Erie County. There
is also an open house all day at "Back to the Wild" in Castalia.
