Yesterday, I visited McGee Marsh for the first part of my day off. It was the worst I've ever seen it this time of year (bird wise). Beautiful day, lots of robins, blackbirds, & grackles. Waterfowl not too bad. Did manage to see a Water Pipit. Probably the storms to the south had a lot to do with the few migrants.

So when I finished my trip east along the boardwalk, I decided to walk back along the beach & maybe pick up a shorebird or 2. I didn't. I did, however, see a flock of 50 - 60 Sabine's Gulls. Half were standing on the sand, the other half were floating about 10 - 20 feet out. Until yesterday, I'm guessing I've probably seen about a half dozen Sabine's gulls in my life & all a lot further away than this bunch was. Not bad.

Part 2 of my day was to go fishing down on Sandusky Bay. Very Good idea. On the way down, I saw an Eared Grebe, a little west of Davis-Besse. When I got to the spit I usually fish from, I parked and watched an Arctic Tern fly slowly by, not bad that's only the second one I've seen. The other was in NJ over 60 years ago. I only fished about 2 hours, bringing back 1 Yellow Perch, 2 White Bass & 2 Bullhead Catfish. I did see a kingfisher flying around the bay. As I drove back along the spit, I watched a Caspian Tern dive into the water.

Not a bad day. Most of the good birds I saw, I only see once or twice a year.
