The black-necked stilt reported yesterday at Acton Lake was present again at
about 10:30 am.

For those wishing to try their luck, Acton Lake is in Hueston Woods SP in
southern Preble County (SW Ohio), just north of the Butler Co. line. The
bird is frequenting the northwest finger of the lake, which is a shallow
area formed as the stream feeding the lake spreads out into the lake. This
morning's sighting was across a small inlet from the parking area where many
boats are stored, which in turn is just behind (west of) the Nature Center.
The bird also has been seen from the group campground area, which is on the
other side of the stream/inlets.

The parking lot mentioned above is easily accessible from the park entrance
for the nature center -- just follow the signs and you will see all the
boats on trailers in the parking lot. The group campgrounds also are easily
accessible -- the gravel road back to the camp sites is closed temporarily
to vehicles, but you can park nearby and walk for a few hundred yards to the
sites. (I parked at the bike rental place, which was closed yesterday,
directly across from the road to the group campgrounds; if the bike rental
stand is open, it would be prudent to ask if parking there is OK.) Group
camp site 2 (clearly marked) affords a good view of the area; if the bird is
not seen there, group camp site 1 is worth checking. In both cases, walk
across the campground to the edge of the lake.
