Yesterday I saw a single American Bittern that I flushed while walking around Hoover
Meadows with my Ornithology class. The bird flew a short distance and landed in the same
wetland (it was the wetland in the back of the area. Hoover Meadows is located on the North
Eastern side of Hoover Reservoir. Did not hear or see any rails, as well as
Prothonotary Warblers at Mudhen Marsh.

Birded the Kokosing Gap Trail today in Mount Vernon. Saw much of the usual suspects, the
best birds I saw or heard were Brown Thrasher (saw 1, heard 1) and a single Northern Rough-
winged Swallow. Got to watch some Belted Kingfishers diving for their aquatic prey.
