Hi Folks -

After leading a schoolgroup today at West Creek Reservation in Parma, I had
a few minutes to scan the stunning blue skies. From the parking lot, one can
look almost dead south, and plenty of 'skyway' is open to the eye. In one
circular sweep we had a single OSPREY, a single American Kestrel, a single
Sharp-shinned Hawk, 4 Red-tailed Hawks, and a very distant Red-shouldered
Hawk. The Osprey was streaming (not high enough for a true 'stream') NNE,
the kestrel NNE, and two of the Red-taileds were truly migrants and heading
N. The Red-shouldered could have been a local.

Elsewhere in the Brecksville region, numerous Turkey Vultures and plenty
more Red-taileds, but in some instances it was a just a guess as to which
individuals were true migrants - most were not high enough to truly be
streaming so I assumed that they are our typical resident/nesting birds just
moving around.

During late April, the open parking lot and old landfill field are excellent
vantage points for counting raptors. Last year we had a hayday with
Broad-wingeds and kestrels moving over. This was my first Osprey for the
reservation list.

cheers
Jen
