Hi Rob,
So maybe just maybe you heard a Chuck-wills-Widow. Check that call
out someplace if you can. I know, I know they are only very rarely up
around these parts, but hey, what you describe the call as being like
is similar to that I think. I"m actually thinking about running over
there later tonight to listen for it myself.

So I also took a walk around my back 40 here at home today, and
had a few migrants around, my yard isn't the greatest migrant trap so I
wasn't expecting very much but it was nice anyways, heres my list of
highlights:

Palm Warbler - a nice brightly colored individual
Yellow Warbler - always a joy to see for the first time each year.
B.G. Gnatcatcher - 2
House Wren - 1 singing away
Brown Thrasher - 1
White-crowned Sparrow - singing! and its always nice to see them.
Barn Swallows

    Good Birding,
       - Ben
