I just got off the phone with Levi Hochstetler who asked that I post the totals of the hawk count that he and a group of friends had at Conneaut yesterday (Monday, April 23). The group included Ed Schlabach, who is certainly one of Ohio's premier hawk watchers. They had an incredible day, in addition to the 2 Swainson's reported to the listserv yesterday. Some of these totals are likely single day state records:

  22 osprey
  1 bald eagle
  27 northern harrier
  2 Swainson's hawk
  2,323 broad-winged hawk
  578 sharp-shinned hawk
  19 Cooper's hawk
  53 red-tailed hawk
  7 red-shouldered hawk
  27 American kestrel
  3 merlin

The majority of the broad-wings were sighted before 11:00 a.m., and the first was seen around 7:20 a.m. while they were still on the road.
