Hey all -

The highlight at HBSP this morning was a migrant
LONG-EARED OWL. It was initially pretty close to the
main trail to the breakwall but then flew off a bit.
It had not been relocated when I left. Another
highlight was a MERLIN near the main parking lot when
I arrived. It also flew away not to be seen again.
There were good numbers of early April migrants
around, including quite a few singing Fox Sparrows, as
well as my first Caspian Terns, N. Rough-winged
Swallows, and Brown Thrasher of the year.

I stopped by Shipman Pond on the way out and was
pleasantly surprised to find: P-b Grebe (6), Gadwall
(8), wigeon (2), R-n Duck (10), and Bufflehead (5),
along with 40 or so coots and more Fox Sparrows.

All in all, a beautiful morning to play hooky from
work and go birding.

-Gabe Leidy
