Birding from the car was the order of the day due to
the bone-chilling winds. I meant to look for farm
fields, per Bill Whan's post, but don't think I went
for enough west.

Glacier Ridge is the place to go for American Kestrals
and Eastern Meadowlarks. They were easy to see. A
few Blue-winged Teal and some American Coots were on
the ponds. Not much else of note.

There were 15 Turkey Vultures at one stop along the
Scioto River near the reservoir, on the ground and in
a small tree.

I birded Highbanks from the window in the Visitor's
Center and rather enjoyed it. There were lots of
birds despite the cold and I enjoyed their interplay.
Downy woodpeckers were an armslength from me
(windowpane between us) and I got my best look ever at
a bunch of Field Sparrows. A Hairy Woodpecker showed
up and then a Pileated Woodpecker. He was so close I
could clearly see his red moustache. He was still at
a nearby tree when I left. A Cooper's Hawk flew in
for "lunch" and the birds scattered.

Anyone have any other good recommendations for places
to bird from the warmth of the car?
