Hi all,

A trip to Shawnee State Forest - see
http://www.ohiobirds.org/birdingsites/showsite.php?Site_ID=16 for more -
today yielded some new returnees, at least for me this year. Yellow-throated
Warblers are plentiful, and can be expected along all of the streams, as can
Louisiana Waterthrushes. Saw my first Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, although only
a few, and a Blue-headed Vireo had returned and was singing in an area where
they apparently nested last year.

Plenty of other signs of spring. The redbuds are in full bloom in many
places, along with lots of other flora, and we had nine species of
butterflies: Tiger, Spicebush, and Zebra Swallowtails; Henry's Elfin; West
Virginia White; Falcate Orangetip; Spring Azure; and Juvenal's and Sleepy
Duskywings. Plenty of other interesting things, too, including a whopper of
a Timber Rattlesnake.
