Fellow bird Gourmets,
Many of you already know that the Columbus Audubon Societies Avid
Birders group has arranged a Spring birding trip to Colorado for April
2-8.  Some of the target birds include;

        Lesser Prairie Chicken
        Greater Prairie Chicken
        Sharp Tailed Grouse
        Greater Sage Grouse
        Gunnison Sage Grouse
        Blue Grouse
        White Tailed Ptarmigan
        Scaled Quail

Aside from not being found in Ohio, these birds have one other
important thing in common. They are all quite edible. Therefore, not
only do we have to scout all the appropriate Leks and other places
where they might be SEEN, but we have to scout out all the restaurants
where they might be SERVED. This will take us to a more upscale dining
establishment than the avids are used to, but it should be worth it. A
nice Grouse in a mushroom sauce with a little merlot would be a great
addition to anyones life list. I'm personally hoping to add at least
four to my list.
We (there are eight of us) will, of course, also search for
Rosey-finches, Longspurs, Plovers, and other birds, but the highlights
are the edibles. I always like to collect bird lists from the areas I
visit, but this trip I'll try for a menu or two, as well. Look for the
report, and the reviews, when we return.

Joe in the woods (until tomorrow)
        Perry County, Ohio
