Hi to all Ohio birders,

Had a situation happen this morning that scared the heck out of me. I was
sitting at the dining room table reading the paper when I heard a thud hit
the window next to me. Never a good thing. My wife and I looked out the
window to see what had hit the window. I didn't immediately notice
anything. Than laying in between some logs I have standing on the patio I
use as a blind for photographing my feeder birds I saw a little green lump
laying there. At first I couldn't tell what it was but than it slid
slightly on its side. I knew at once it was a warbler and it's little wing
was laying splayed out at its side. I went out to check on the little
fella hoping/praying he was OK. When I got out there he was breathing very
fast and shutting his eyes. I reached down and as gently as I could
touched his wing to see if it would tuck back in. Luckily it did without
effort. The bird kind of sat up but still wasn't moving. He was kind of
in between two logs and I could only see his back and part of his face and
knew I had never seen this warbler before. I told my daughter to get my
Birds of Ohio book and started tearing through the warblers to see what he
was. Turns out it was a Kentucky Warbler. A lifer for me. Definitely not
how I ever want to get a life bird. When my daughter brought out the book
the backdoor shut kind of loud and this caused the bird to flutter in the
air and land out in the middle of the patio. I felt slightly relieved and
hoped he could eventually fly. I decided I was going to sit with him to be
sure he didn't end up somebodies free meal. After about five minutes he
hopped up into the air and flew to the bushes that border the back of our
property. I sat and watched where he flew in the bushes for a few minutes
and saw him moving around so I think he was alright. Scary stuff but what
a gorgeous little fella. I know I was very freaked out and would have been
very upset if things hadn't turned out so well. As they say though alls
well that ends well.

Take Care,

Matt Vosniak
