This is purely a case of being in the right spot at the right time. I walked down the road this morning to see what I could see and as I was looking at a perched Bald Eagle (Reeder Ave.) I looked above me and saw a group of Avocets circling around. They kept circling around for several minutes before landing in what I thought would be the only suitable spot for them since water levels are high. Fortunately for me this spot is pretty close to the road, and I was able to view them very well. There were 46 of them in great breeding plumage. Unfortunately for others who might have liked to see them every time a car passed by they flew then came back down and finally after about ten to fifteen minutes they gave up, and I watched them fly off into the WNW horizon. So those of you to the west and north may have a chance at a beautiful group of Avocets.
This is the first spring Avocet sighting for me here at Walborn. I saw one individual several years back in the fall.

Good biridng everyone and remember to plant native!
