This AM the White-rump was nowhere to be seen on the Cowan spillway but the Caesar Creek beach was interesting. There was a Laughing Gull in breeding plummage, three
Herring Gulls, two Forster's Terns (only one in breeding plummage), a Spotted Sandpiper and several resident Ring-bills. All the birds were at the extreme north end and the Laughing Gull and terns went from the beach to buoys. About 10 AM a horde of school kids hit the beach but did not get close enough to bother the birds. However, a fellow with a metal detector did and the Laughing Gull took off when he got too close. Hopefully it will return.
Summer Weather Cheers, Larry Gara, Wilmington
