This is the Ohio Rare Bird Report for May 25, 2007.

This is a summary of noteworthy birds reported from Ohio in the
previous week or so. Reports have been gleaned by the compiler
from various internet sources, particularly Ohio-Birds, The
Ohio Birding Forum, the RareBird.org forums, Cincinnati Bird
Sightings Log, Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) Rare Bird Alert, and
from some individual observers who kindly share their
knowledge. Questions, comments, complaints and additional
noteworthy sightings not posted to one of the above may be sent
to the compiler.

Review List Species. (Review list species are sufficiently rare
that details of any sighting can help increase our
understanding of Ohio's bird life. Suggestions and guidelines
for submitting documentation of review list birds can be found
at the OOS website (www.ohiobirds.org).

TRICOLORED HERON: Gabe Leidy flushed one at Pike Creek Wildlife
Area on the 24th.

GLOSSY IBIS: Two were seen from the Welcome Center Walking Path
at Magee Marsh on the 18th according to "Bret" at RareBird.org.
Frank Frick saw one at Spring Valley Wildlife Area on the 18th.
Larry Gara reported it still remained on the 20th. Kenn Kaufman
reported that Pike Creek Wildlife Area, Sandusky County, yielded
two to the "Flycatchers in the Rye" North Coast Open team on the
19th. Gabe Leidy did not relocate them on the 24th.

Other Notable Sightings

Little Blue Heron: Alex Hickey and others spied one at the marsh
area of Acton Lake, Hueston Woods State Park, Preble County on
the 23rd.

King Rail: The North Coast Open team "Flycatchers in the Rye"
found two actively calling at Mallard Club Marsh Wildlife Area
on the 19th.

Willet: The North Coast Open team "Flycatchers in the Rye"
ticked one at Metzger Marsh Wildlife Area on the 19th.

Whimbrel: Paul Wharton saw one at Miami Whitewater Wetlands,
Hamilton County, to the northeast of the observaton deck on the
23rd.

Marbled Godwit: "Teircel" at Rarebird.org observed a single bird
make a brief stopover at Metzger Marsh on the 19th.

Wilson's Phalarope: Rick Counts located one at Longbrake
Wetlands, Hardin County, on the 18th and again on the 24th.

Red-necked Phalarope: Rick Counts found one at Longbrake
Wetlands, Hardin County, on the 18th.

Laughing Gull: Larry Gara found a breeding-plumaged adult along
the Caesar Creek SP beach on the 24th.

Barn Owl: Rob Thorn reported hearing one screech over Tanager
Woods Park, Columbus, on the night of the 22nd.

Olive-sided Flycatcher: Rick Counts added one to the Longbrake
Wetlands, Hardin County, list on the 18th. On the 19th the NCO
team "Flycatchers in the Rye" found one along Girdham Road in
the Oak Openings, Lucas county. Bath Nature Preserve, Sumit
County, yielded one to Jen Brumfield on the 20th. Sam Corbo
found one at French Park in Amberley Village, Cincinnati, on the
21st. Andy Sewell spotted one at Kiwanis-Dublin Riverside Park,
Franklin County, on the 23rd.

Yellow-bellied Flycatcher: Randy Rogers reported that one graced
the OOS conference at Mohican State Park on the 19th. Ray
Hannikman had one along the lower Zimmerman trail at Headlands
Beach State Park/Mentor Lagoons on the 20th.

Golden-winged Warbler: John Kuenzli found a singing male along
the Terrace Trail at Battelle-Darby Metropark, Franklin County,
on the 22nd.

Connecticut Warbler: Ray Hannikman found one on the 20th at
Headlands Beach State Park/Mentor Lagoons along the lower
Zimmerman trail, which Ray says is a "weakly defined path along
the western edge of Shipman Pond below the actual Zimmerman
trail". Suzanne Wagner reported the bird was heard, but not
seen, the following day.  On the 21st, Rob Lowry heard one along
the first part of the pet trail at Highbanks Metro Park,
Delaware County.

Evening Grosbeak: One visited a feeder near Beck's Mill in
southern Holmes County on the 21st according to Bruce Glick.
