Hilarious, I and three other people that are working around Columbus with
Cardinals/Acadians were in the same exact place and tried to id the same
flower... again... actually we see them in the Riparian forests a lot, for
example I saw them at Tuttle Park in Columbus and I think at a couple other
Columbus area Riparian parks...

Ehhh, might as well talk about birds, good Warbler day in the Hocking Hills
area, trying to remember what we saw at each site but I really can't keep it
all straight, a summary:

Warblers seen/heard at Conkle's Hollow, Stone House and Old Man's Cave:
Louisiana Waterthrush
Ovenbird
Common Yellowthroat
Black and White
Black Throated Green
Northern Parula
Pine
Hooded
Cerulean
Kentucky

Hi, Joanne!

Your flower is Large-flowered Valerian (Valeriana pauciflora Michx.).

Nice find. I know of it from very few spots (only one in Salt Fork...where
I saw my first one), but I believe that it is locally common...if you know
where to look.

  Good birding...and botanizing...

While visiting the area, saw several black and white warblers, scarlet
tanagers, cedar waxwings, red-eyed vireos (singing everywhere!), one
calling tufted titmouse, crows, and a huge bird that screamed "raven"
but could not have been--probably a quick glance at a black vulture or a
pileated woodpecker. It was a very brief sighting while driving down
the road near Conkle's Hollow, not long enough for an ID, obviously.

Are there otters at Clear Creek? Hubby and I believe we may have seen
one -- too big for muskrat, wrong tail for beaver.

Thanks.
