Hi everyone,

Beth and I took a walk in Forest Hill Park this afternoon‹we were there for
about an hour and a half starting about 5:45. It was a beautiful sunlit,
warm (not hot) and windless afternoon.

We didnıt get any migrants, but had some nice birds anyway. Things were
pretty quiet until we came upon a coupe of puddles left over from the rain
of a couple of days back. There we had a mixed group of American Robin, Gray
Catbird, Baltimore Oriole, Eastern Kingbird and Cedar Waxwing all bathing
and eating gravel.

Throughout the park, we had numerous of all the above, as well as numerous:

Song Sparrow
Chipping Sparrow
House Sparrow
Eastern Wood-pewee
Chimney Swift
Great Crested Flycatcher (2)
Blue Jay
Northern Cardinal
Killdeer (one only)
Canada Goose
Mallard (only one pair)
Brown Creeper (one only)
Tree swallow (one)
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Common Grackle
European Starling
Mourning Dove

Iıd say that the two best birds of the day were seen as a result of large
areas of grass gone to seed, on both the East Cleveland and Cleveland
Heights sides of the park. On the East Cleveland side, we had a Wild Turkey
in the grassy area to the northwest of the wildfowl pond. This is a bird we
were confident lived in the park, but itıs the first one weıve seen.

On the Cleveland Hts side, the so-called Great meadow is completely in seed.
In the mowed grass between the meadow and the softball fields, we had
terrific close looks at an Eastern Meadowlark! This was a complete, and very
happy, surprise!

Best wishes,

Steve Cagan
Cleveland Hts
